Special Education Teacher - ELA
Job Description
SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER – ELA – GRADES 1-8
United Staffing a leader in the staffing industry has the privilege of assisting a small, private special education school in hiring a Certified ELA Special Education Teacher. The ideal candidate has experience working with Grades 1-8 in a special education setting and experience developing and preparing curriculum. A team spirit with the ability to collaborate with the support staff will result in a meaningful and successful teaching experience.
This is a 12-month program. Working during July and August is optional.
Salary - $75,000-$90,000 depending on experience
Excellent benefits package – Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, PTO
Hours – Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm. Occasional monthly meetings that may require light overtime.
Responsibilities for the ELA Special Education Teacher:
- Motivate students and teach skills and strategies
- Complete CPI training provided by school
- Help students develop social skills
- Incorporate various modes of learning
- Responsible for writing the curriculum and various reports
- Ability to work with a multi-sensory literary program
Job Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education
- Valid NYS Special Education Certification
- Certification in multi-sensory literary instruction (Orton Gillingham highly preferred)
- Minimum of 2 years previously teaching ELA in a special education setting
- Working knowledge of IEPs
- Experience working with children that have a variety of disabilities
- Ability to work with parents, teachers and faculty
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to provide 3 employment references
