Pay: $50/hr

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am-3:30pm

Job Summary for the Registered Nurse OPWDD:

  • provide nursing services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities as required
  • ensure the safety of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, co-workers, and self through the appropriate use of universal precautions, lifting and other treatment techniques
  • participate and contribute to the interdisciplinary team process
  • cooperate with the overall Day Services, policies and procedures and agency goals

Responsibilities and Duties for the Registered Nurse OPWDD:

  • properly dispense medication
  • ensure that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are taking all prescribed medication
  • assist people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve self-medication when indicated by the people with intellectual and developmental disabilities treatment plan and continuously monitor the effects of medication, activity levels, physical condition and personal hygiene of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Evaluate medical and health status for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities on a continuous basis, develop medical histories, nursing care assessments, nursing care plans, implement appropriate protective and preventive measures in regard to communicable diseases and maintain complete, accurate, and up to date medical records.

  • Provide periodic staff training in the areas of first aid, detecting signs of illness, infection control and human sexuality and other topics as assigned.
  • Certify and re-certify Day Services staff in AMAP.

Job Requirements

  • Registered Professional Nurse with licensure from New York State Education Department,
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; with at least 1 years of nursing experience working with Intellectual Disabled Adults in a Day Program setting
